Calls for an End to Elephant Polo in India
Complaints stem from the manner in which the elephants are treated during tournament periods: confined living areas, squalid conditions and inhumane treatment during games. Sharp ankushes are used to poke and control elephants during games. The region of Rajasthan is a popular zone for this type of sport and it has
been played by the rich and royalty for hundreds of years. People for
the Ethical Treatment of Animals India (PETA) is aiming to bring greater
publicity for this practice with a view to major improvements or a total
ban in time. More Animal News
